The cruise with hurtigruten, or the Norwegian Coastal Voyage as it’s often called in English, from Bergen to Kirkenes is pretty amazing. Everyone I’ve talked with have really enjoyed this cruise. There are departures from Bergen every day from April 15. to September 17. with a full day druise to Geirangerfjorden as well. The whole cruse takes 11 days from Bergen to Kirkenes and back again, with the Bergens to Krikenes part taking 6 days and the return taking 5 days.
You can also choose shorter parts of the trip if 11 days is too long for you. There are different ports on the northbound and the southbound voyage. Here are some of the different options listed. Read the rest of this entry »

Norway is very popular for people that like sea fishing. There are some special rules for foreign citzens however, and you can read these rules at fiskeri.no. Norway has lots of deep fjords and the long coast line also offers a very unique variety of fishing areas. The south west of Norway borders the North Sea and here you will find shallow costal areas with sand combined with the deep fjords. If you got further off the coast you will reach the deep areas towards the North Sea plateau.
If you got far north in Norway the water outside of the coast will get quiet a bit deeper and there are more small islets. Up north is also where you will find the very impressive riffs of Stadt. They lay on the border between the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea. Lofoten is also a very important area of Norway when it comes to sea fishing, and this is the spawning grounds of some of the greatest stocks of fish in the world.
You can get many types of fish in Norway like herring, cod, salmon, coalfish, haddock, etc. Thousands of tourists come to Norway for fishing every year. A fishing vacation is easy to combine with a cruise vacation on say hurtigruta, so it’s definitely something to consider.

Hurtigruten, a well known Norwegian cruise company, have put together a new cruise that will take you from Tromsø in Norway to Buenos Aires in Argentina this autumn.
The departure is September 11. and the whole cruise will take 36 days. You don’t have to be on the cruise for the whole 36 days if you don’t want too. The ship will sail through Bergen and Oslo on it’s way south, and will pick up pasengers at these destinations.
The ship will also stop in several Norwegian cities before it reaches Las Palmas at the Canary Islands. There will be a brief stop here for a few days, and it’s possible to fly home from here if you don’t want to be on the cruise the whole way.
Crossing over to Buenos Aires from here is expected to take about 15 days. Read the rest of this entry »

There are not many places in the world where you’ll get the chance to see the midnightsun like in Norway. The Arctic Norway is truly beautifull, and taking a cruise here during the midnightsun is a great way to experience the nature.
Interesting places to see on this cruise would be Lofoten, Trollfjorden, Nordkapp and all the facinating islands and mountains along the Norwegian coast up there. You might also get the chance to see whales here if you are really lucky. There are several Norwegian companies offereing these types of cruises

It’s not only the fjords on the western coast that are popular as a cruise destination in Norway. Cities along the Norwegian coast such as Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Aalesund and Tromsø are getting really popular to visit on a cruise ship.
The advantage with visiting the cities in Norway along the coast, compared to say visiting large cities in central europe and US, is that the cruise ship can take you all the way into the city. Visiting larger cities the cruise ship would usually have to stay outside the harbour and you’d have to be taken there by a smaller boat. Then once ashore train or bus rides of maybe half an hour or more are not uncommon.
